Lynx is a free open-source, text-only Web browser. Many search engines like Google recommend you to look at your site using Lynx browser as the search engine crawlers and bots ‘see’ your pages the way Lynx sees.

Browsing in Lynx consists of highlighting the chosen link using cursor keys, or having all links on a page numbered and entering the chosen link’s number. Lynx cannot display various types of non-text content on the web, such as images and video, but it can launch external programs to handle it, like an image viewer or video player. The speed benefits of text-only browsing are most apparent when using low bandwidth internet connections, or older computer hardware that may be slow to render image-heavy content.

Why use Lynx now ?

Most search engine spiders see your site much as Lynx would. If fancy features such as JavaScript, cookies, session IDs, frames, DHTML, or Flash keep you from seeing all of your site in a text browser, then search engine spiders may have trouble crawling your site. As a bonus, providing text-only alternatives to rich-media content and functionality will make it easier for search engines to crawl and index your site, and also make your site more accessible to users who use alternative technologies such as screenreaders.

How to use Lynx ?

Download and install Lynx. The first time your run Lynx, you would be having no idea of how to use it. Press k from your keyboard to display series of keys and their functions. Here are some keys that you will use most often. And be careful, these ARE case sensitive.

• g – Enter URL to open a web page or website.
• q – Quit Lynx browser.
• v – See a list of bookmarks
• a – Add the current webpage to bookmarks

To Open A Site, press g from your keyboard, enter the URL of the web site and press Enter.

But the site does not allow download. The song is streamed to your Real Player. In this article I am gonna show you how to download songs for free and play it on your computer using Real Player. Here’s how to do it.

• Go to KannadaAudio.com. Film names are arranged in alphabetical order. Select a movie name to see a list of songs.
• Right click on a song name and select Save Link As option. Save the file and do NOT open it with Real Player. It’s barely a few bytes in size and has the file extension .ram
• Now open the saved file using any text editor like Notepad. You will see URL of the song.
• Copy the desired song URL to address bar of your browser and hit Enter.
• You will be prompted to save the file or play it using Real Player. Save the file with any name. The file will have .rm file extension.
• Play the saved file with Real Player and voila you are done.

Update : sensongs.com seems to have Kannada mp3 songs for direct download. Use that instead.

Client Side Redirect (carried out by your browser)
You can create a webpage that instructs the browser to redirect a webpage to another after certain time delay. The time delay is purely optional.
This is achieved using the meta refresh command which is to be placed within the head tags. Here’s the general syntax :

<meta http-equiv="refresh" content="N; URL=destination_webpage_address">
</head>

The browser redirects the user from the current page to the destination webpage address specified in the “URL” attribute of the meta tag after a time delay of N seconds.
If you do not want any time delay and want the browser to redirect immediately, you can set the delay time N=0.

What’s the use of time delay option ?
Almost all browsers can successfully handle these automated redirects. Most of the browsers allow the user to turn off this feature to prevent phishing,spam, etc. In such cases, we can provide an message and usual link to the destination address. The browser displays the message and link for specified time and then automatically redirects.
Here’s a complete example of a redirecting webpage. Consider that I save the following code in file named index.html

In the above example, whenever a user accesses the webpage http://www.prashanthpai.com/index.html, the browser redirects the user to http://www.prashanthpai.com/main.html after 4 seconds. If the user has disabled automatic redirection in browser, he can click the “Click Here” button to reach the destination webpage.

Aliter :
There’s another method of achieving client side redirect with the use of window.setTimeout in JavaScript. But I prefer the use of meta tag method cause JavaScript may be disabled by the user using Browser’s Options or Firefox NoScript AddOn.

Note :
Server Side Redirect (carried out by the webserver) : This redirect is carried out by the webserver. You will have to just edit the .htaccess file on your server.
