Engineering CutOff Ranks Of Colleges in Karnataka
Students after getting CET results are not sure that in which college they may get a seat and in which branch. So I have put up the cutoff ranks of various top engineering colleges in Karnataka. The data is taken from 2007 CET counseling and there might be very slight difference in cutoff this year. However, the trend will remain the same.
I don’t have reservation under any category and hence cannot get Computer Science branch in any top engineering college. May be I should take Mechanics. Or if luck is on my side, nobody should take Computer as the IT industry has collapsed and there are thousands of job cuts. Hope it works that way 
The following cutoff ranks are with respect to General Merit (GM) seats only.

If you are eligible for any reservation like rural quota, minority quota, SC/ST, OBC etc, you may get good colleges even if you do not have good ranks. Reservation has ruined our country

Under GM, you may get Info. Sci in DCE, MVJCE, OCE, AHIT, VIT
got 1699 rank should i go for RV ee or MSR it ????home nearby MSR….
It’s completely your decision to make. Both are very good colleges regardless of RV being ranked higher. So you’ll have to decide whether you like EE or IT.
But if I were you, I’d go for IT in MSR.

I’ve referred to 2007 data. It depends on the no. of candidates under your reservation category as well. So keep your fingers crossed and let’s hope that you get the best.

The 3b category will not help u get better college under Info. Sci as the seats fror Info. Sci comparatively less.
If you opt for mech or e&e, you may get slightly better colleges like MVIT

You may not get E&C in any good college. I refer to the following list. But this year, after all this recession and job cuts in IT field, you may get in CS …. hopefully…. keep you fingers crossed. Can’t predict anything about which college coz, the 2007 cut off statistics w.r.t CS is almost obsolete in the current scenario for you rank.

This year, it’s obvious that there will be TOO MUCH rush for mechanical. All of my friends over here who can’t get into E&C are opting for mechanical. So chances of getting very good colleges is slim.
for Civil : RVCE, BMS, MSRIT .
in 2007, very less number of students opted for civil so even if the rank is not very good, many got seat in good colleges.

The usual cutoff under 2A (for even good colleges) for Civil is around 29,000 to 34,000 mark. So you might narrowly miss good colleges.
Try your luck at : PESCE, Mandya or NMAM, Nitte ( both around 34,000)
P.S : There are colleges which has cut off for Civil as high as 50,000 ! but instead of doing Engineering in those colleges, B.Sc is a lot better and practical.

If I were you, I would do B.Sc in a good college. Companies visit degree colleges also for campus selection. So join any good college for B.Sc
The companies do not see marks alone, they put equal stress on communication skills, soft skills, management skills, leadership qualities etc.

For 2007 medical cut off please refer to the following PDF document. And I have no idea if you are eligible for govt seats. Please refer to the eligibility criteria section in the KEA Brochure.

Under GM, you may not get in MSRIT but under telecom, you can try at MVIT, CMRIT.

It’s difficult to get any good college under GM category even though demand is less for Civil. Reservation has ruined our nation. Moreover, all the engineering colleges do not have Civil course, only some do. There’s no doubt that you’ll get a seat for Civil, but not in the top colleges.

Can’t predict anything about CS and Mech as there will be considerable change in demand for these two courses. The demand for CS is expected to plunge and there will be increasingly more demand for Mech this year.

I am sorry but for your rank and course, I cannot suggest any good college. There will be more demand for Mech this year. Kindly download the PDF documents at the end of the post which contains the cutoff of all engineering colleges. I do not know good colleges in B’lore apart from those in this list.
And, to know which college is good in B’lore, you’ll have to ask its students there. You can’t completely rely on someone else’s opinion. All the best

For E&C : CMRIT, JSSATE
For E&E, as you said, you can get into PESIT, BMS.
If I were you, I would take E&E in PESIT. But hey, that’s me.

For CET seats, the fee is either 18,090 or 28,090 depending on college ( i don’t know exact terms )
For non-CET seats like through COMEDK or Management seat etc, 1.25 lacs/year minimum.

Probably not. I don’t know if there’s any advantage of the income status. But cut off for Info. Sci. there under 2BG was 6510.

You may not get there. E&C cut off was 1113 and CS cut off was 1907 in CET 2007.

I suggest you take Mechanical. You may get Mech at UVCE, MVIT, Dr.AIT.

You may get Civil at PESCE. Your rank is quite unlucky. Under 2A category, almost all good colleges have cut off for civil below 33,500.

There is no doubt that you will get seat in any one of the colleges. But the disadvantage is you may not get your preferred college and preferred course. For that rank, I cannot suggest any college or course. For example a guy who got 53900 rank got Textiles Engineering at SKSJTI, B’lore; a guy who got 53,000 rank got a seat at MITE, M’lore in Mechanical. I hope you can understand. If I had got that rank, I would do B.Sc. But that’s just me and that’s what my personal choice would be. There’s a far bigger world beyond engineering. That’s all I can say.

Important Note : The cut offs of various colleges and courses mentioned through out this post are taken from 2007 CET counseling after the casual vacancy round i.e after the seat allotment process is complete. For example, if cut off for a course in certain college was 8000, a guy with rank 7500 may not get it in admission round and may get it in casual round.

Both E&C and Mechanical are evergreen with regard to scope. But, as you’ve got pretty good rank, it’s wise to go for E&C. Best college for E&C is RVCE but you may not get there.

colkonnect has only 2007 cutoffs. I just cross checked some of their cutoffs (which the website claims to be from 2008 cut off) with the 2007 cutoffs – the numbers are exactly the same.

You may get seat in Bio.Tech coz it’s not what most of the students choose. It has very good scope as the Bio tech industry is at its infancy – all those genetic engineering and stem cell research is the way to future

I’ve no idea about it. But chances of getting CS at MCE are very high as not many of those who appeared for COMEDK turn up for counseling.

And there is no 2008 cut off rank data. KEA had not published it.

i’ve got 8270 in kcet 2009. according to the cutoff list i will get mech in mvit(i really want that) but i’m not sure if the cutoff ranks mentioned are from the first counselling or after the casual round. can you please suggest some colleges in bangalore in which i can get mechanical. it’s strange to see the ignorance of the people. here i saw hardly any comment about DAYANANDA SAGAR COLLEGE OF ENGINEEIRNG.while people are mentioning about CMRIT,BNMIT etc. see the truth and analyse the things before taking admission into any college.
this college is sure to figure among the top 5 college of bangalore, n the trend is positive for this college. in 2006 COMEDK, ECE cut off was 6500,n for COMEDK-2009 ECE cut off is 3800. similarly CET 2007 GM ECE cut off was around 3500 but for 2008 ECE cut off was around 1900.that’s too after having huge number of seats for ECE.generally other good colleges hav less number of sets than DSCE.placement— 700 hundred offers last year. highest offer 7 lac by microsoft to 8 students. 55 companies visited the college. other dream companies are honeywell,ADOBE systems, SAP labs, IBM labs, NOKIA,siemens.infrastucture is excellent. just come down to DSCE campus if u don’t believe. it is likely to overtake colleges like BIT,NIE, SMVIT very soon.

I got IS @ MCE, Hassan. In 2007, the cutoff there was 4700. My rank is 8033 and when my turn came, there were still 3 IS seats remaining.

select CSE,ECE,ISE,telecom in any of the following colleges if seats are available. most of the seats are filled up at ur rank. u won’t get seat in any of the top colleges at that rank but u can try these colleges in 2nd round. these are
BIT,DSCE,SMVIT,RNSIT,BNMIT,
can select SIT,BVBCET hubli,gogte, NIE, SJCE.
outsiders prefer generally top bangalore colleges like RV,PESIT,BMSCE,MSRIT,DSCE,BIT,SMVIT etc.
but if u interested outside bangalore colleges u can select SJCE,NIE,BVBCET,GOGTE etc as these collegs get filled up much later.

Yeah ……… During my own counseling, in the waiting room, I saw on the display screen ….. a girl belonging to SCG (Scheduled Caste General) who has 7800 rank easily got a CS seat @ RVCE. I, being GM, 8033 rank got IS @ MCE, Hassan. Gross Injustice.

@Murali : If you are eligible under SC category, for your rank, you can get E&C @ RVCE or PESIT, chances are very bright.
@tyagraj : I’m afraid, for your rank, you’ll have to compromise between good college or preferred course. What branch are you interested in ?
@vikas : You’ll get very good colleges if you opt for branches which have less demand like Civil, Instrumentation, Chemical, BioTech etc.. What I suggest is you go forward with your choice of branch, it doesn’t matter if you get slightly less good college. I’m doing my engineering in ISE @ PESSE, B’lore right now and trust me, whatever college you take, it’s all self study !
@ raksha : Assuming you are under GM, Bright chances of getting very good college if you take electrical EE : PESIT, BIT, Nitte, MSRIT, SJCE etc. If you take EC,CS, you’ll get good colleges but NOT the top ones. E&E is said to be the toughest branch, very few make it till end, but worth it.
@AG : I suggest you fix ur certificate problem coz ur reservation will increase your chances of getting good college and branch by a large fold. Under GM, you cannot get CS,IS or Mech @ BMS or CMRIT

Ever since 2007, KEA (CET cell) has stopped publishing the cutoff ranks due to objections raised by some colleges. Do you really want to rely on four years old data ?
All I can do is suggest branches and colleges. I cannot predict which college you’ll get. Please calm down.

I’d definitely choose ISE @ BIT. There isn’t much difference between CS and IS, only one or two subjects are different from 6th sem. Instrumentation Technology(IT) is totally not in the picture. For you case, as your rank is quite good, give more weightage on preferred branch than college.

It’s you who’ll have to make the choice. All the colleges you’ve listed are good. Take EE or Mech. EE is a bit tough though.

That’s a good rank. I’m not well aware of COMEDK stuffs. But for your rank, you should have no problem. During counselling, you’ll know which colleges you have. I hope you already know the top colleges to look out for : RVCE, PESIT, BMSCE

For EC, try UVCE or MVIT. Mech, you have many top colleges open.

Swapping branches has it own risk. It’s easy to swap from EC to CS but not the other way around. For example, in my college, one can swap if he/she has got 70+ % in first two semesters AND he/she must may some money. Only a few manage to successfully swap to their desired choice. If you fail to swap after 1st year, you are totally stuck with your crappy branch for next 3 years !!!

You have not answered my question yet. According to the 2007 cutoff rank i can get mechanical at SJC and national institute of technology . But when I went to the respective college and asked them they told that you can’t even get a payment seat in our college.
