FreeRice – Play and Feed a hungry person !

FreeRice is a website where visitors can take various multiple-choice quiz and help raise money to fight hunger. For each answer you answer correctly, 10 grains of rice is donated to the hungry people by the United Nations World Food Program which runs the website with Berkman Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University as it’s partner.

FreeRice was founded in October 2007 by John Breen. In March 2009, Mr. Breen donated the site to the UN World Food Program.

FreeRice has two goals :

  1. Provide education to everyone for free.
  2. Help end world hunger by providing rice to hungry people for free.

This is made possible by the generosity of the sponsors who advertise on the FreeRice website.

Do I really make a difference by playing FreeRice?
The rice you donate makes a huge difference to the person who receives it. According to the United Nations, about 25,000 people die each day from hunger or hunger-related causes, most of them children. Though 10 grains of rice may seem like a small amount, it is important to remember that while you are playing, so are thousands of other people at the same time. It is everyone together that makes the difference. FreeRice has generated enough rice to feed millions of people since it started in October 2007. Free rice has been distributed in various countries which includes Bangladesh, Cambodia, Uganda, Nepal, Bhutan, Myanmar etc.

What should I do ?
All you have to do is just go to the FreeRice website and play quizzes in various topics which includes English, Chemistry, Geography, Language Learning and Arts. You don’t lose anything if you give a wrong answer. Besides helping the hungry people, spending time on those quizzes will increase your knowledge too. Spread the word about FreeRice to your friends and relatives so that they can also actively take part in this program. If you have a website or blog or member in any forum or social site, you can use the FreeRice Banners to promote and help FreeRice.
